diagrams (scott)

Scott and everyone should think about:
clarifying the meaning of the diagrams and this can be by adding some transparent colors and titles.
diagram 1.3 volumes- related to thesis
2. structure overlap in center, one hangs, one buried
3.  circulation intent
4. circulation and volume together

include site an monument in diagrams because that is what makes this project its place

in general

I will be in school at 2 Friday. I saw some of you yesterday which was nice.
I did not get a chance to walk back at 5 but I did at 6 after the review and missed any of you that may have been around.

I think one of you said your model is missing from the room; go to the office to report this and document it in an email to me. Never leave anything important that you do not have a copy of in any room that is not your own property. Also take a photo of a drawing or model after you complete it because things happen as we saw earlier in the semester. Also have a backup of all digital work because a computer can die at any time.

sample portfolio thinking

A few comments: the previous post of the portfolio rules;
as Anthony indicated in class is about organization, also you can see
the background grey or black can have meaning and relate to for example organizing photos.

You should treat the process of making a portfolio like a design problem:
A. sketch through the pages before production
B. start with basic info: site plan, a paragraph or two about the project and make the text read as blocks of information.

Below is a sketch which ask questions of the following sheet. It asks
1. where is the site plan, and limit number of photos especially if they do not become montages with your work in them later.
2. sk refers to the sketches, so relate the first one to the site plan, space out the rest so it reads as individual plan making proposals.
3. add that intro text
4. use the black zone to say this is the given info, i know this person said theywant to do L of black but that is not meaning yet other then i want to....

remember you can go outside of the 9 rectangle when you start grouping  in rows and columns like the yellow and blue color coding of the portfolio rules in indicating.
Enjoy the process, it will take time.

LeeAnn: when I walked away from our discussion, I wasnt sure if your plan and section was matching in terms of the entry area and how high it is off the ground, so please check this.

Anthony: we didnt speak but I saw your drawings and markups, they look complete, but the grid or pavement on the ground seems like it needed more work to mesh the lines below and above, see what Li did with his project, he changed it 3 times before he got it.

Richard, Matt, Steve:
I require that you send me updated drawings before Tuesday for another review; please take this seriously or your grades will be effected.

Everyone must have elevations!

checklist and link

Final Check list:
1. draw grid:

In plan: material lines of pavement/ plaza. You can also have material-pavement lines on interior public spaces.

2. draw poche:
Poche of underground plan
Poche of structure

alex, i thought your reference was esienman, that the roof became a grounded landscape;
your section looks like a proposal without an economy which equals thoughts of sustainability;
economy of time in design and construction,... money, material.
what is the meaning behind this?; i would be more interested in what the interior is then what the exterior does....above are some examples of surface and structure, you must have an intent of both...
I would think the structure should be reminiscent of a landscape...this being for the parks department and in and of the a park and the quality and lines of structure are the interior is interesting...is there a high point which you can get to so you can see the water?

New Roof Scheme

I agree with your comments about the ugliness of the roof form that was presented today in class. Therefore new images were chosen, incorperated and used to inform the shape of the enclosure. these drawings are incomplete but they show a near final form for how the wrapping will be utilized.

All

I was happy at the end of today's class; I feel everyone has asked questions of their project and has conveyed an understanding of why we have asked these questions and why the spaces are the way they are.

You all have a scheme.  The articulation of this scheme with elevations and development of the drawings... in section and plan should be your focus.

Two weeks is a good amount to time. If you all work hard and have your drawings at 1/16th on Tuesday  developed, our last class can be Friday the 9th, with the final a week from this... so this means you can have
the 13th off to produce.

I didn't get back to seeing Niama or Michael but i think you just have to keep going and draw, you can all post and I will respond if your need extra guidance. You can take a picture of a model or drawing to ask your question....Keep going - lets have some great projects.
